Dog Seizure: What Should You Do First?
What should you do during a dog seizure?
Stay calm and keep your dog safe. Do not put your hands near their mouth. Move objects away to prevent injury. Record the seizure with your phone if you can – this gives the most accurate assessment of duration.
How long is too long for a seizure?
- Less than 1 minutes: often self-limiting
- More than 5 minutes: emergency
When should you go to the ER?
- First-time seizure
- Multiple seizures
- Seizure lasting >5 minutes
